Trailer Cranes

Klaas trailer cranes play to their strengths in inner-city areas and on construction sites with limited accessibility. Narrow access roads that make the setup of a mobile crane impossible are not an obstacle for them: they can be set up in courtyards or inside large buildings and, thanks to the remote-controlled self-drive system, can be easily maneuvered even in confined spaces. Their mast system made of 100% aluminum combines low dead weight with high reach values.

The Klaas mast system

The most striking feature of a Klaas crane is its boom: made of high-strength aluminum profiles of a special alloy using friction stir welding (FSW). This gives it a strength "as if milled from solid", a long service life and low maintenance costs. Its low dead weight directly benefits the reach and lifting capacity.

The extremely strong lattice boom tip significantly increases the maximum hook height when extended and allows for a high lateral reach – enabling the installation of roof surfaces on the rear side, even when scaffolding or eaves prevent the main boom from extending far. Some Klaas trailer crane models work with a hydraulically telescoping lattice boom tip, which can be extended and retracted at the push of a button – virtually "in the air".

The patented Klaas winch technology enables safe, rapid telescoping of the mast and lattice boom tip, even under load during crane and platform operation. Four telescoping ropes on a single drum, guided and electrically monitored, prevent slack ropes and skipping. An integrated electronic length measurement permanently records the extension length of the mast and calculates the maximum possible load capacity from it.

The Klaas outrigger system

Most Klaas trailer cranes have an electronic erection system as standard; on the K21-30 RS, it can be ordered as an option. Erecting the crane and automatic self-leveling are completely handled via the remote control: The self-leveling ensures that all outriggers have the same pressure and the unit is optimally positioned. Furthermore, the L-shape of the outriggers ensures maximum stability.

Thanks to the fully hydraulic outrigger system, each individual outrigger can be extended steplessly and precisely. Long, vertical cylinders eliminate the need for complex shoring on uneven terrain. The large stroke ensures a consistently large outrigger footprint and high performance values. Since the outrigger widths can also be selected steplessly, even scaffolding, hedges or narrow passages are not an obstacle.

The ASC control permanently monitors the stability in crane and aerial work platform operation and displays it on the remote control – taking into account changing wind and ground conditions. Only when all four outriggers have uniformly high pressure are all crane functions activated; if the outrigger pressure is insufficient, an automatic safety shutdown occurs.

The Klaas crane control

Klaas cranes are controlled via a safety PLC and an intelligent remote control – programmed according to Klaas specifications and precisely coordinated with each other, in accordance with EN 280 and EN 13000. The modern CAN bus control block with soft start-stop function enables sensitive, precise work and prevents dangerous swinging of the boom. A memory function allows two target points to be learned, between which the crane moves automatically and safely by hold-to-run – ideal for poorly visible areas or repeatedly approached positions.

The remote control display shows all important information at a glance. It works via standard batteries or cable – an advantage should the radio network ever be disturbed. Every Klaas crane can be equipped with a second radio remote control, so that a second employee can take over control in poorly visible positions.

The Klaas drive concept

We have the drive – you have the choice: diesel, hybrid or electric.
Depending on the crane model, you can choose between a powerful diesel engine, a hybrid package or a battery-powered electric motor. Most trailer cranes run on an efficient diesel engine, characterized by particularly low fuel consumption.

The K23-33 City and the K400 are optionally available with a hybrid drive. In addition to the classic diesel engine, they have a low-noise 400-volt electric motor. This can be removed without tools for road transport, ensuring that the permissible total weight is reliably maintained.

The K280 E, K300 E and K350 E models operate entirely electrically. Modern, powerful 400-volt battery systems enable long operating times over several working days – even with intensive crane and platform use. Speed and crane performance remain fully intact.
